“Frio” means cold in Spanish. The cinnamon-scented icy refresher is popular in coffee-growing Guatemala, where frozen sweetened coffee is crushed and topped up with milk.

Ingredients

3/4 cup (175 mL) PC Medium Roast Gourmet Coffee - Fine Grind
4 cups (1 L) PC Natural Spring Water (Large Sizes)
1/2 cup (125 mL) granulated sugar
4 cups (1 L) cold 2% milk
Pinch ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Brew coffee with water. Stir in sugar until dissolved. Cool to room temperature. Pour into two standard ice cube trays. Freeze.
  2. Just before serving, remove ice cube trays from freezer and let stand at room temperature 10 minutes. Place coffee cubes in heavy-duty plastic freezer bag; pound with bottom of heavy pan until crushed. Divide among six tall glasses. Pour milk over, dividing evenly. Sprinkle with cinnamon and serve. Makes 6 servings.
