Panna Cotta means cooked cream in Italian. Our version is softly set, creamy and luscious. Butterscotch sauce takes it over the top.

Ingredients

1 pkg (7 g) unflavoured gelatin
1/2 cup (125 mL) 2% milk
1 can (400 g) PC Devon Custard
1/2 cup (125 mL) PC Old Fashioned Butterscotch Ice Cream and Dessert Topping
1 Bosc pear

Instructions

  1. Place 1/4 cup (50 mL) cold water in small saucepan. Sprinkle gelatin over water. Let stand 5 to 10 minutes or until water has been absorbed.
  2. Add milk. Place over medium-low heat; cook, stirring, until gelatin dissolves, about 2 to 5 minutes. Stir in Devon custard; cook, stirring, until combined and heated through, about 2 to 5 minutes. Divide among six 1/2 cup (125 mL) ramekins. Cool to room temperature. Cover with plastic wrap. Chill for 4 hours or overnight.
  3. To unmold, pour 1-inch (2.5 cm) boiling water into baking dish. One at a time, remove plastic wrap from ramekins, dip into water for 10 seconds, turn upside down over dessert plate and gently pry panna cotta out using fingertips.
  4. Spoon butterscotch sauce over panna cottas. Thinly slice pear; use to garnish panna cottas.

 

Chef's Tips

Instead of unmolding panna cottas, spoon butterscotch topping into ramekins on top of set panna cotta, and garnish with pear slices. Use custard cups or small tea cups if you do not have ramekins.
